Description

This lot comprises an antique hand-cranked sewing machine manufactured by The Singer Manufacturing Company. The machine is of cast iron construction with a black enamel finish, featuring a spoked hand wheel with a wooden handle. The main arm is decorated with remnants of gold-toned foliate decals and is marked along the top with the printed script reading ‘The Singer Manufacturing Co.’. Centered on the arm is the maker’s name ‘SINGER’ in gold-toned lettering. The machine is currently mounted to a rectangular dark-stained wooden base and is secured with twine. No wooden cover is present with this lot.

Condition report:

The item is in poor condition and exhibits significant surface oxidation and heavy rust across the needle plate, faceplate, and hand wheel (photo 1). The black enamel finish is heavily worn, chipped, and dulled throughout the body (photo 2). The decorative gold decals show extensive loss and fading. The wooden base is weathered with visible staining and wear to the edges (photo 3). Mechanical functionality is unverified, as internal and external components show heavy surface corrosion.
