Lot 77:
Sold for: £6
Description
A pair of hand painted carnival photo stand-in props, also known as face-in-hole boards. The two panels are constructed from structural grade plywood with rounded top corners and feature oval cut-outs designed for photography. One panel depicts a stylised skater youth wearing a green backwards baseball cap, a maroon T-shirt with a white horizontal stripe, and oversized grey trousers, shown mid-action on a yellow skateboard with one hand raised. The second panel portrays a bearded character in a yellow wide-brimmed hat, wearing a red waistcoat with yellow buttons over a black shirt, accented by a yellow polka-dot necktie. Both figures are rendered in a bold, illustrative folk art style with heavy black outlines. The reverse sides are unfinished raw plywood, and no manufacturer marks or artist signatures are visible on either piece.
Condition report:
Both panels show signs of use consistent with outdoor event props. There is visible wear and minor paint loss along the edges and surrounding the face cut-outs on both boards (photo 1). Surface scuffing and minor dirt marks are present across the painted areas. The plywood edges exhibit light splintering and wear (photo 2). One panel shows diagonal shadows in the primary image which are not permanent marks (photo 1).
