Description

A collection of decorative items and flatware, including an alabaster relief, a cased glass inkstand, and silver-plated teaspoons. The lot features a circular white alabaster relief plaque depicting the Madonna and Child, titled Madonna Profetica. The plaque is housed in a brown presentation box with a printed label reading Madonna Profetica and an accompanying handwritten card signed A. SANTANGELA FATTO A MANO MADE BY HAND. The relief itself is inscribed Di Volterra … MCMLXXXI and A. Santangela. Also included is a green cased glass double inkstand of rectangular form with two square metal lids; the front is decorated with a white and blue transfer insignia for the Royal Air Force (RAF), comprising a crown, wings, and the letters R A F.

The collection further comprises two cased sets of silver-plated teaspoons. One blue presentation case contains six teaspoons with decorated handles, featuring an interior black and gold label reading EPNS MADE IN SHEFFIELD ENGLAND. The second, smaller brown case contains six similar teaspoons. Completing the group is a heavily embossed silver-toned metal candlestick, a small brass-toned bell with scrolling foliate patterns, and a single silver-plated spoon in a cardboard box printed SILVER JUBILEE SUGAR SPOON.

Condition report:

The silver-plated items show varying degrees of surface tarnishing and oxidation, particularly visible on the candlestick and boxed spoons (photo 1). The alabaster plaque appears in good condition within its original housing, though the exterior presentation box shows minor scuffing to the edges (photo 3). The green glass inkstand exhibits some internal staining to the ink wells and minor surface wear consistent with use (photo 2). The presentation cases for the flatware show light fraying to the interior linings and exterior wear to the hinges (photo 4).
