Description

A collection of framed artworks including an oil painting and various prints. The group features a large oil on board depicting a wooded marsh at sunset, signed ‘Glen’ in the lower right. Also included is a smaller horizontal oil on board showing a coastal scene with trees, signed ‘M. Parkes’ in the lower left. A pair of floral print studies on paper in matching gilt frames, one depicting orange dahlias in a glass vase and the other showing chrysanthemums in a ceramic pot. The prints include a limited edition work titled ‘Poppies in the barley’, numbered ‘177/850’ and signed ‘C. M. Whitehead’, alongside a smaller print titled ‘Mischief Makers’ depicting black puppies. A vertical landscape print shows a cottage by a river in a deep gilt frame. The collection is completed by a botanical composition of dried leaves and ferns arranged under glass in a black and gilt frame. The works are housed in a variety of traditional and modern frames, many featuring multi-layered mounts.

Condition report:

The floral studies show visible foxing and light staining to the mounts (photo 3). The frames across the collection show general surface wear, including minor scuffing to the gilt and wood finishes (photo 1). The dried botanical arrangement appears secure behind glass, though the backing paper shows some age-related discoloration (photo 5). No significant losses or tears are visible to the painted surfaces or prints.
