Description

A collection of decorative glass, ceramics and metalware including several pieces in the Chokin style. The Chokin items are decorated with etched copper plates gilded with silver and 24 carat gold, depicting birds and floral scenes; the group comprises multiple plates, lidded jars and vases. Many of these pieces are marked to the underside with printed text reading Chokin, THE ART OF CHOKIN, 24KT GOLD EDGED, and MADE IN JAPAN. The collection also features two pressed milk glass lidded trinket boxes, one in the form of a bird on a nest and the other a pedestal urn, both bearing the impressed mark AVON to the base.

Further items in the lot include clear and green glass vases, two glass pitchers with floral decoration, a brass oil lamp base and a hammered copper-tone metal bowl with lion-head handles. Additionally, there are two carved wooden cat figurines with inset rhinestone eyes, several pieces of cut crystal, and two small silver-toned and cobalt glass condiment pots.

Condition report:

The collection generally appears in good condition with surface dust throughout. There is visible tarnishing to the brass oil lamp base and the hammered metal bowl (photo 1, 7). Some wear is evident to the gilded edges and surfaces of the Chokin decorative plates and jars (photo 3). The wooden figurines and glass pitchers show no visible chips or cracks. The Avon milk glass items appear intact with no visible damage to the relief patterns (photo 8).
