Description

A collection of antique and vintage items including an assortment of postal and spring scales. The group features several brass-finished postal balances, some mounted on mahogany or oak style wooden bases. Notable scientific instruments include a vertical spring letter balance marked SPRING LETTER BALANCE and a set of nested brass weights with legible denominations reading 2 OZ, 1 OZ, 1/2 OZ, and 1/4 OZ. The lot includes pendulum-style scales in both brass and grey metal finishes.

Further items in the collection comprise a pair of silver-toned metal spoons with embossed floral designs, and a cast metal squirrel-shaped money box finished in red paint with a blue shirt reading BANK OF SCOTLAND in white lettering. Also included is a wooden shield-shaped plaque for BANBRIDGE DISTRICT COUNCIL with a painted coat of arms and the motto PER DEUM ET INDUSTRIAM. A blue and green Gamester fabric carrying case with an attached Pokemon Jessie badge and an Arrowfile storage system box containing black binder sleeves complete the lot.

Condition report:

The collection shows various signs of age and use across the items. Several of the brass scales and weights exhibit surface tarnish, oxidation, and a dark patina consistent with age (photo 1). The Bank of Scotland money box shows minor paint loss and surface abrasions, particularly on the ears and base (photo 3). The Banbridge District Council plaque has visible surface wear, scuffs to the wooden mount, and minor losses to the painted coat of arms (photo 4). The Arrowfile storage box is worn at the edges and corners with some surface staining to the lid (photo 1).
