Description

A collection of vintage and antique decorative objects, including various hand-painted papier-mâché boxes and metalware curiosities. The group features several papier-mâché boxes in circular, oval, and egg-form shapes, decorated with intricate floral and foliate motifs in a Kashmiri style. Metalware items include a silver-tone watering can inset with a clock face, a repoussé metal casket featuring an elephant motif, and a green-enameled teapot with inset decorative stones. Also included are a miniature silver-plated elephant, a heart-shaped stone box with floral inlay, a circular compact with an embroidered floral lid, and a brass butterfly-shaped ornament. The lot is completed by a black-glazed ceramic animal figure, a small wooden toy vehicle, a metal crucifix, and two pieces of flatware comprising a fork and a knife with tapered handles. The flatware blades bear marks that are not clearly legible.

Condition report:

The collection shows varied conditions throughout. Several papier-mâché boxes exhibit visible wear and small losses to the painted lacquer surfaces (photos 1 and 3). The metal items, including the watering can, elephant casket, and flatware, show significant tarnishing and surface oxidation consistent with age (photos 1, 2, and 4). The heart-shaped stone box appears to have minor scuffing to the edges (photo 3). The embroidered lid of the compact shows slight discolouration to the fabric (photo 4). All items appear structurally intact with no major breaks visible.
