Lot 286:
Sold for: £6
Description
A mid-century modern style wooden armchair featuring a ladder-back construction and a traditional woven rush seat. The chair is constructed from a light-to-medium oak-coloured wood, possibly beech or fruitwood, with a grid-patterned backrest comprising two horizontal rails and three vertical slats. The frame features curved, tapered armrests and turned legs connected by dual side stretchers. The seat is hand-woven in a four-triangle envelope pattern using rush or seagrass cord. No manufacturer marks, labels, or branding are visible on the wooden frame or the underside of the seat.
Condition report:
The wooden finish shows significant surface wear and abrasions, most notably on the upper surfaces and edges of both armrests where the stain has worn away (photo 1 and 2). Scattered scuffs, nicks, and scratches are visible throughout the legs and backrest frame (photo 4 and 5). The rush-woven seat remains structurally intact but displays signs of age-related dust accumulation and minor fraying at the outer edges (photo 2). The joints appear stable upon visual inspection.
