Lot 259:
Description
A Queen Anne style oval coffee table featuring a burr walnut veneered top. The surface is decorated with a book-matched burr walnut field, enclosed within a delicate inlaid stringing border and four floral marquetry sprays positioned at the cardinal points. The table is supported on four solid wood cabriole legs, possibly beech or fruitwood, terminating in pad feet. The underside reveals a plain secondary wood construction with two transverse support rails and a dark-stained perimeter apron. No manufacturer marks, labels, or signatures are visible on the frame or the underside of the table.
Condition report:
The table is in poor, unrestored condition. The top surface shows extensive degradation to the finish, including a large area of white blooming or clouding, likely caused by moisture or heat damage (photo 1). There are numerous deep scratches, scuffs, and areas of flaking lacquer across the veneer. Structural cracks and lifting are visible in the veneer, particularly along the central joins and outer edges (photo 1). A small circular indentation or impact mark is present near one of the marquetry inlays. The legs and feet show general surface wear, scuffing, and finish loss consistent with age and use (photo 2).
