Description

A collection of assorted vintage and antique silver-plated and stainless steel flatware. The group comprises a variety of dinner and dessert forks, soup and dessert spoons, and table knives. Several pieces are executed in traditional Old English and Fiddle patterns. The lot includes a set of knives featuring cream-coloured synthetic handles, likely celluloid or xylonite, typical of mid-20th-century British manufacture. One knife blade is stamped with the maker’s name ‘MOODY SHEFFIELD STAINLESS’, while another blade bears a circular logo with text that is not clearly legible. The silver-plated items show varied markings, including a spoon handle with a partial stamp ending in ‘S’, likely indicating EPNS (Electroplated Nickel Silver). A small fork also features a mark on the reverse of the handle, though the characters are too small to be deciphered.

Condition report:

The collection is in a used, mixed condition. Many of the silver-plated pieces exhibit significant tarnish and surface scratches consistent with age and regular use (photo 1). The cream-handled knives show general yellowing and minor surface wear, although no major cracks are visible in the photographs (photo 1). Light spotting is evident on several of the metal blades. The items are currently stored loose, with some pieces bundled together using string or rubber bands.
