Lot 174:
Sold for: £8
Description
A collection of elephant figurines carved from dense dark hardwood, including ebony style examples. The group comprises figurines in various sizes and anatomical poses, including standing, walking, and trumpeting subjects. The figures are hand-carved with some featuring a polished finish while others retain a more matte surface texture. A larger carved wooden stand is included, featuring a stylised design of intertwined trunks surmounted by a smaller figure. Many of the elephants feature inset white tusks possibly made of bone or synthetic material. A white adhesive label is present on one piece reading 174 Plymouth. No other manufacturer marks or signatures are visible across the group. The lot is a composite collection gathered over time with varying degrees of carving detail and anatomical representation.
Condition report:
The collection shows general surface wear consistent with age and display, including dust accumulation, light scuffs, and minor scratches (photos 1, 4, and 8). Numerous figurines are missing one or both inset tusks (visible in photos 1, 4, 5, and 8). Several loose tusks are present on the display shelf (photos 4, 5, and 6), which appear to have detached from their respective figures. No obvious structural repairs or significant wood splits are visible in the photographs provided.
