Description

A collection of naval and maritime militaria comprising binoculars, insignia, and ephemera. The lot includes a pair of binoculars marked Nitschke Rathenow in a brown leather case stamped MADE IN ENGLAND, alongside two other pairs of binoculars of varying vintage. Royal Navy insignia within the group includes two bullion wire cap badges featuring a crown over crossed anchors and two rank slides, one embroidered with a red anchor.

Documentary items include a 1943 Ship Safety booklet reprinted from BR. 827—A Seaman’s Pocket-Book, bearing the handwritten name S.T.M. VINCENT, and a ring binder containing informational warship data sheets. Framed items feature a monochrome engraving of The New Victualling Office, Devil’s Point, Plymouth, and a print of HMS Warrior. The collection is further supplemented by a Chelsea football club scarf, a Super Bowl XXXIII commemorative envelope, a Ty Beanie Baby blue bear, and miscellaneous maritime prints.

Condition report:

The collection is in mixed condition. The vintage brass field glasses show heavy desiccation and significant loss to the leather covering (photo 8). The 1943 Ship Safety booklet exhibits foxing and edge wear (photo 7). Light staining is visible on the white sections of the Chelsea knit scarf (photo 1). Bullion badges and patches appear bright, though stored in non-archival plastic bags.
