Description
A collection of elephant figurines and one crocodile figurine, possibly made of ebony or a similar dark hardwood. The group comprises multiple animal figures in various poses and sizes, including adult elephants and calves. The elephants are depicted with trunks in both raised and lowered positions, some in walking stances and one mounted upon a stepped circular wooden base. Many of the larger elephant figures feature inset white tusks, possibly made of bone or a synthetic material. The carving styles vary from smooth, stylised forms to more textured representations, particularly visible on the scales of the elongated crocodile figure and the hide of several larger elephants. No manufacturer marks, signatures, or country of origin labels are visible on the bodies of the items. This lot comprises the animal figurines only; the shelving and any other interior items shown in the images are not included.
Condition report:
The collection is in good vintage condition with wear consistent with age and display. Several elephant figurines are missing one or both inset tusks, notably a large elephant on the far right (photo 4) and a medium-sized elephant in the centre (photo 2). There is a visible loss of finish or a reddish-brown mark on the back of a small elephant in the centre foreground (photo 3). The large crocodile figure displays a matte, dry finish compared to the polished appearance of the elephants (photo 1). Surface dust and minor scuffing are visible across several pieces (photos 1-4).
